The Hangover Blues Band is a five-piece Rhythm and Blues band, based in Warwick, England.

Formed in early 1990, they have played many hundreds of gigs throughout the UK and abroad at venues and festivals large and small and on the 6th July 2001 they played at the prestigious Montreux Jazz festival surely one of the high points in any band's carreer. The knowledge and experience they have gained through years of playing and listening to Blues and other music, helps them to create an authentic and powerful interpretation of the songs they perform, and have earned them a good reputation with those who have seen and heard them.

Their line-up consists of:

  • SAM POWELL - Lead Vocals, Harmonica
  • DAVE BRAGG - Bass Guitar, Vocals
  • KELVIN LEITCH - Drums, Vocals
  • PAUL SWANSON - Lead Guitar
  • MARK STEED - Piano, Organ, Vocals

Sam Powell joined the band in mid-1990 as Bass player, and replaced the original singer after 10 gigs. He provides the band with a good, solid vocal, and his Harmonica playing is of a high standard. When DR. FEELGOOD decided to go back on the road a couple of years after the tragic loss of Lee Brilleaux, Sam was the first person invited to audition for the job. He is in constant demand as a guest/stand-in harp player with many bands, and has guested with MIKE SANCHEZ, STEVE GIBBONS, ALAMO LEAL, and also plays in The STEVE WALWYN BAND, the BLUETITS, the BOB PHILLIPS BAND. He was also involved in a roots Blues trio with "wandering" JOHN ALDERSON, and RON WATTS of BREWERS DROOP and 100 CLUB fame.

Dave Bragg was a founder member of the band. From a background of classical music training, he had gone on to play guitar and bass in various bands. After a long absence from the music scene, he made his return to the Hangover Blues Band firstly as keyboard player but later reverting to bass guitar after the loss of our previous long-standing bass player. His great Blues feel playing makes him an integral part of the band's Rhythm section.

Kelvin Leich joined the band in August 1992, having played and recorded with various bands since his early teens. A talented and versatile musician in his own right, he is without doubt one of the finest Blues drummers around. He also plays in the BOB PHILLIPS BAND and is in demand as a session drummer.

Paul Swanson has been with the band since February 1994. He too had played in and guested with a number of bands before joining the Hangovers. Although an afficionado of all the great Blues players, he is one of few guitarists around today who can be said to have a "style" of his own.

Mark Steed is a Blues Pianist of the highest order, and his Hammond playing is second to none! He joined the band full-time in May 1999, after standing in many times. As a professional musician he has toured worldwide and has done much recording work. He also plays in The STEVE WALWYN BAND and the BOB PHILLIPS BAND.
