Outward Signs on the Bandstand Stage at the Isle of Man Blues Festival

Outward Signs

Outward Signs are
James Tinkler
, guitars and vocal,
Juan Christian
, bass ( and
son of the
legendary Ginger Christian from Green Ginger; rock 'n rolling on the Isle of
Man since before these guys were born) and
Geoff Tinkler
on drums.
James and Juan have been playing since winning a Battle of the Bands contest at
High School when they were just 18. This was with two other fellas who have
long since departed. Jimmy and Juan have played together with different
drummers as a 3-piece band but now Geoff is in the band having played a lot of
gigs in bqnds including support to Jacoba
at the Bay PE, on Mad Sunday, gigs at the Trafalgar and the Station, Port St
mary .
This latest lineup has now played loads of gigs and they
are lining more up for the future. At present the next gigs are:
12th Feb
British, 21st Feb Britannia, 28th Feb Rosemount and 05th of March at the George
Castletown.
They are also trying to make time to record having won quite a bit
of studio time in various competitions. James, for instance, won the
solo original song category of the
London's Calling
competition in the
Trafalgar
towards the end of last year playing acoustic guitar, harmonica and
vocals. Playing all self-penned material James played solo at the Venue
and traveled free to London to play a gig with the other victors in a music
club down there. He also won some recording time for this too.
James has also played on Manx Radio for
Roy McMillan's Opus programme
and
recorded a live number in the studios on Douglas head which ended up on the
London's Calling
compilation CD. He was also invited to play at Roy's 40th birthday party! He
has done solo gigs at the Cornerhouse and with Christine Collister at the new
Arts Centre in Peel as well as in O'Donnells.
As countless others have been before, James and the band are heavily influenced
by Jimi Hendrix, Thin Lizzy, and Led Zepplin as well as by Chuck berry, Bob
Dylan, Neil Young, Robert Johnson and John Lee Hooker. And of course James's
personal favourite and man of
ridiculous ability, Stevie Ray Vaughan.
