Paul Jones BBC RADIO 2
Smokestack's approach to the blues is a unique mix of original songs, jazz and
latin grooves, big toned harmonica and sophisticated slide guitar.
After the release of their debut cd
"el cobra"
the BBC invited the trio to record a session for the Paul Jones
Blues Programme on BBC Radio 2.

In 2002 Smokestack released their second cd
"solid gold"
which has already
received airplay on Jazz FM (London), BBC Southern Counties and several radio
stations in the U.S.A.
Phil Mills
- lap steel - guitar - harmonica & Vocals,
Roger Ferris
- bass and
Ali Van Ryne
- drums, percussion, formed Smokestack in 1997
Phil Mills has recently guested playing lap steel on the new Bluestates album
"Man Mountain" which will be released in August and Phil's slide playing was
featured in the tv film documentary "Through the eyes of the world", the life
of Mohammed Ali.
RADIO AIRPLAY:
As well as the bands BBC session for Radio 2, and Airplay on Jazz
FM, a number of BLUES PROGRAMMES in the USA have played selected tracks, these
include: KJLU (Missouri), WUCL (Florida), WRFG (Atlanta)
BLUES FESTIVALS
Smokestack have played at the now legendary Bishopstock Blues Festival. Also
at: Brighton Jazz and Blues Festival, Isle of Man Blues Festival, Film and Music
Festival, Abbeville (France) Bude Jazz Festival, Crawley Blues and Roots
Festival
PRIVATE FUNCTIONS & CORPORATE EVENTS
Smokestack have performed at a
number of private corporate events, these include: Arsenal FC, American Express,
Borders Books and Music, Brighton Bears Basketball Team
