Stonechase are a three piece rockabilly band covering a range of Rock and Roll
material. The band was formed in 2003 with the idea of playing music that most
people would have heard before but giving it a different slant and attitude.
The set is full of classic R&R tracks featuring a staccato beat hammered out on
a double bass, backed up by flowing guitar lines and topped off by a full vocal
sound.
The line up features Matt James on vocals, Matt is a vocalist with an
incredible vocal range. He is not a regular on the manx music scene but is more
normally found in the Gaiety Theatre taking principal roles with both local and
national theatre groups. Matt trained as an actor at Arts Educational in London
and has appeared in many musicals, his favourite role being"Cookie" in "Return
to the Forbidden Planet" which explains his flamboyant stage presence !
Ken Mitchell was the guitar star of the Debt Collection Agency Blues band - not
to mention his silver and brass band connections, teaching credentials, music
retail etc etc.. Amongst Ken's many talents are his guitar skills which
provide the melodies and solos on a classic Rockabilly guitar.
Johnny G slaps the bass. Providing both bass and rhythm for this drummerless
three piece is a bit of a challenge for John. John has been playing for local
blues
Bands for numerous years - debuting with the Steelyards Blues band before
working his way into the bass chair for the legendary Raw Deal. This is a bit
of a departure from his 'normal' band which plays Ska and Punk but he says that
the attitude is the same, it just sounds a little different.
On a different note all three members of the band appear in summer
2004's "Rocky Horror Show" at the Gaiety Theatre, Douglas, Isle of Man with
Matt taking the lead
role of Dr Frank-n-Furter and Ken and John accompanying him and the cast from
the orchestra
pit.
