Shades of Purple are from the Isle of Man and as such have a strong link with
the famous TT races that occur here each year. For the past few years they have
been performing to ever growing audiences at residencies throughout the huge
festival period. During the 2002 TT they supported an '80s' tour featuring (
Among others )
ABC
,
Belinda Carlisle
,
Toyah
and
Curiosity Killed the Cat
. The
reception they received from the three thousand strong crowd was tremendous and
proved their capability to perform alongside the seasoned greats
The aim of Shades of Purple is to take their live set to as many people as
possible throughout the UK and Europe. Currently self-managed the many
performances already undertaken have strengthened a resolve to carry on the
tradition inspired by Purple themselves of solid enterprise and a dedication to
the music.
Shades of Purple have existed as a unit now for over three years, originally as
a rock covers band, learning their craft together as one.
Their diverse individual elements have helped create a fusion of complementary
influence and outlooks on the music of Deep Purple. In bringing these
ingredients together they become less of a 'tribute' and more of a 'parallel'.
Audiences unfamiliar with the original material ( As many younger people are,
unfortunately ! ) find an easy introduction from the performance of Shades of
Purple who add a touch of the modern to the essence of the old.
A special 'feature' of Shades of Purple is their guitar combo of Blackmore and
Morse allowing a freedom to unlock certain songs with an authentic edge. This
allows dual guitar parts to be played live, mimicking the harmony overdubs of
the original material which often adds to the very fabric of the songs : the
melody section in the Speedking middle-eight or the Harmony lead in Mistreated
for example...
