Festival Saturday - Evening
"Another great night" - JB
21st May 2006
Centenary Centre Arts guru Dave McLean (right) joins Steve "Big Man" Clayton
for some
boogiewoogie - click to enlarge

Saturday night started with a great set from
Davy Knowles of Back Door Slam - click to enlarge
|
Backdoor Slam
- they really have
worked hard whilst off the island and they now have a really varied and tight
set with Davy's voice sounding better than ever.
There is superb feel and depth in their playing and they should not be missed
at their TT Week gigs coming up in just a few short weeks.
Steve Clayton, "a charismatic performer" - click to enlarge
|
Steve 'Big Man' Clayton
won the audience's heart with great boogie-woogie piano playing and
singing. He is a really charismatic performer with great humour and was later
joined by the island's premier rhythm section of
Roger Leece and Kinnie
. He
also dragged the Festival's own
Dave McLean
up to play the piano whilst the Big Man
himself stood up to sing. Then the two of them played the piano at the same
time much to the enjoyment of the audience.
Connie Lush and Blues Shouter - click to enlarge
|
Connie Lush and Blues Shouter
showed their great experience with a blues and soul set which had the audience
dancing until the very end. Connie's voice really is world class and she had
great rapport with the audience.
All in all a great day.... thanks to
Anglin
and Dave
for great sound,
Ken and Soundcheck
for the light,
Don
for the amps,
Lenny, Adrian, Cathy, Trevor, Tom, Lizzie, Carrie, Dave, Vida
, the ever
cheerful security staff and
Red Cross
people and of course the superb musicians
and wonderful audiences. Now all we have to do is go down, tidy up, have a spot
of lunch with Steve Clayton, RB and Hector and then it's off to Peel tonight
for their concert at the Centenary Hall - busy but great days....
