Blues Legend for 2006 Fest
4th February 2006
John Hammond
|
In a stunning announcement today John Barker has confirmed that the legendary
blues player,
John Hammond,
will appear at the Friday Sessions on the Main Stage at this year's 2006
Festival.
Son of the great music producer John Hammond Snr (who is often credited with
bringing roots music to the wide attention of the general public) and with a
career that now spans in excess of three decades,
John Hammond
|
John Hammond is one of a
handful of white blues musicians who was on the scene at the beginning of the
first blues renaissance of the mid-'60s. That revival, brought on by the
renewed interest in folk music around the U.S and Europe boosted the careers of
many of the great classic blues players, including Mississippi John Hurt, Rev.
Gary Davis and Skip James. Some critics have even gone so far as to describe
Hammond as a white Robert Johnson, and Hammond does more than justice to
classic blues by combining powerful guitar and harmonica playing with
expressive vocals and a compelling stage presence.
Once again the festival will be a wonderful opportunity to enjoy live blues at
it's best but with John Hammond on stage this could well be the gig of a
lifetime. Congratulations to everyone involved.
